National Summit on Women’s Safety, 6-7 September 2021

With the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010–2022 soon coming to a close, development of the next National Plan is well underway.

The Department of Social Services, with the support of the Office for Women, is running public consultation to inform key priorities and focus areas for the new National Plan.

Consultation activities include the National Plan Advisory Group, virtual workshops with key participants from each state and territory, a public survey on engage.dss.gov.au which is open until 31 July 2021, and the upcoming National Summit on Women’s Safety.

In March 2020, the former Council of Australian Governments agreed to hold a National Summit as part of the consultations for the development of the new National Plan. Originally planned for May 2020, the Summit was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It will now be held over two days on 6 and 7 September 2021 at Parliament House, Canberra.

The Summit will bring together a range of experts, including advocates, service providers and those with lived experience of violence, to discuss key issues affecting women’s safety.
