What are we doing?
Victoria is developing a comprehensive and coordinated Primary Prevention Data Platform, to drive evidence, outcomes and monitoring in family violence prevention. Respect Victoria is leading this work to provide the necessary data and tools for policy makers, researchers and practitioners to track population-level progress towards the prevention of family violence. This includes monitoring and evaluating progress on prevention, and the ability to report on trends in the prevention of violence against women and family violence. A data dashboard will be published on the Victorian Crime Statistics Agency’s (CSA) website as an addition to the Family Violence Data Portal https://www.crimestatistics.vic.gov.au/family-violence-data-portal
What have we achieved so far?
Respect Victoria is leading this project working in partnership with the CSA. Following extensive work to identify measures that are relevant and can be drawn from reliable data sources, work proceeded to acquire the data and build the online dashboard.
Collection and analysis of data is being progressed against 22 indicators, guided by Victoria’s Family Violence Outcomes Framework. Some 87 discrete measures and 350 sub-measures are currently incorporated.
Respect Victoria is working closely with stakeholders to test iterations of the Data Platform to ensure that it is fit for purpose, and that all data is contextualised through accompanying narrative to assist users with interpretation.
What is next?
The first public release of the platform is expected to occur around April 2021 with initial promotion and support of uptake by policy makers, researchers and academics. Guidance materials to support wider use of the platform will be developed and will be disseminated later in the first half of 2021.
Arrangements will be put in place for maintenance, ongoing growth and development of the platform.
What difference will we make?
- The intended outcome is the first construct of a world-first online interactive platform that will track progress towards a Victoria free from violence at a population level. This will support the targeting and design of prevention programs to be more effective and responsive to trends.
