- 13 Prevent sexual violence and sexual harassment before it happens through national and targeted initiatives that promote informed consent, bodily autonomy and respectful relationships.
- 15 Strengthen the capacity of all sectors to address sexual harassment to ensure women are safe at work, while studying, in public and online.
What are we doing?
This action represents the Tasmanian Government’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that gender equality and respect are at the centre of all workplaces across the Tasmanian State Service. Under Safe Homes, Families, Communities, Tasmanian Government Departments will continue to ensure gender equality and respect remains a priority in the workplace.
- Continue to ensure that gender equality and respect are at the centre of all Tasmanian State Service employees is an action under Safe Homes, Families, Communities: Tasmania’s action plan for family and sexual violence 2019-2022 (Safe Homes, Families, Communities), which invests $26 million over three years from 2019-20 to 2021-22 to prevent and respond to family and sexual violence in Tasmania.
What have we achieved so far?
Safe Homes, Families, Communities commenced implementation on 1 July 2019.
COVID-19 has impacted the progress of some initiatives. In the interim, a cross-agency working group continued to support agencies to develop resources and promote gender equality and primary prevention.
In November 2020, the Family Safety Secretariat for Safe Homes, Families, Communities worked with the cross agency working group and the Our Watch Senior Adviser Tasmania to develop a social media campaign to promote Our Watch’s ‘Doing Nothing Does Harm’ over the United Nations’ 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence.
In December 2020, the Premier formally announced that all Tasmanian Government departments would adopt the Our Watch Workplace Equality and Respect Standards.
What is next?
Tasmanian Government departments have commenced implementation, including undertaking self-assessment, supported by Our Watch, and are working to develop individual action plans by December 2021 to guide implementation of Workplace Equality and Respect.
What difference will we make?
Safe Homes, Families, Communities represents the next stage of the Tasmanian Government’s long term commitment to preventing and responding to family violence and a new response to sexual violence. It is the vision of the Tasmanian Government that all Tasmanians are safe, equal and respected and that our homes, families and communities are free from all forms of family and sexual violence.
The intended outcomes of this action include:
- Tasmanian State Service staff are able to recognise and respond to family violence;
- Tasmanian State Service workplaces are able to better support staff impacted by family violence; and
- Tasmanian State Service workplaces demonstrate a commitment to reducing violence against women, including family violence.
Implementation of actions under Safe Homes, Families, Communities will be guided by an implementation plan developed by responsible agencies. The Tasmanian Government will monitor implementation of each action under Safe Homes, Families, Communities and undertake ongoing evaluation to inform future delivery. As part of the Tasmanian Government’s commitment to transparency and accountability, annual progress reports will be publicly released each year.
